Wet Leisure Case Study Design, Build & Refurbishment
In August 2010 we were asked to assist in the design of a new attraction to include refurbishment of the existing pool areas for Haven Holidays Weymouth Bay resort.
The result was an impressive 60 metre lazy river with rapids section, umbrella fountain and relaxation area. The two existing pools were completely refurbished with one becoming an indoor/outdoor pool with a retractable swim through shutter.
This was a big project with a deadline to open in May 2011. Everyone involved worked together sometimes through some very unpleasant winter days and the outcome we feel has been nothing short of spectacular. Here are some of the holidaymakers feedback when it was first opened on the 7th May 2011.
- "You must be very proud of it"
- "Isn't it wonderful"
- "You feel like your're in the Med"
- "It's bigger than we thought even looking at it last week"
- "The kids don't want to get out"
The lazy river functions using adjustable flow jets that allow you to create a current that can be set at different speeds to help propel bathers along the river. The ride begins inside, once outside there are water jets that spray on top of you as well as a quiet holding pool to stop and relax in before entering the rapid section that sends you towards the feature umbrella fountain before returning to the exit area situated back inside.
Do your Holiday Park wet leisure facilities need updating?
The biggest attraction at most of Britain's holiday parks is the swimming facilities. From experience and feedback a new ride, splash pad or lazy river can generate more visitors and make you stand out from the crowd when a client is choosing a holiday.
